Bikes: Push V Power

There’s something eternally manly about anything on two wheels. We can’t quite put our finger on it here at Bateleurs but mounting a bike makes us feel powerful, driven and productive. Whether it’s a high tech, high spec mountain bike, a cool and trendy moped or a super powerful full-fledged motorbike monster. We love them all, so this article was particularly difficult to write. We take a look at the three main types of bikes and break down what’s great and what sucks about each Ready for the winner? You’ll have to read on to find out.

Pushbike

We’re cheating a little bit here and lumping road, racing and mountain bikes into one, even though they’re all majorly different. The mechanics are essentially the same though and all provide a great workout and a chance to experience terrain that the powered bikes can’t. There’s something about taking a thick tyre bike up into the hills or the mountains, sitting on top of the world and throwing yourself down over lumps and bumps, skids and pebbles It’s thrilling, it’s exciting and it’ll help improve your fitness. Equally as great is the feeling of racing on a smooth surface, reaching speeds you didn’t know were possible on something without an engine, with the wind exerting major g-force on your face. You can buy carbon fiber full suspension mountain bike and enjoy your fitness to the fullest as well!

The obvious downside to push bikes is their like of engine-fuelled power. You can’t travel for days on a pushbike (if you can, fair play to you, you must be a machine). But, to us, that’s half the fun. Use your God-given strength to power yourself along.

Moped

Mopeds and scooters were once the go-to of the mods and rockers of the 70s, frequently associated with a certain genre of music, gangs and the violence of Brighton beach. Nowadays, they’re the vehicle of choice for the hipsters of the young driving world. The engines are small, averaging around 50cc and the licensing laws are less intense on these because, in reality, they really don’t go fast at all.

You can be cool and edgy, but not sleek and fast with a moped. If you’re over 25 and drive a moped – please stop and move onto a real man’s bike, these are for teenagers.

Motorbikes

The big daddy bikes. They’re big, they’re powerful and they pack a serious punch. I’m not going to go into details about all my favourite bikes and brands because this post will turn into a novel. Just know that riding a motorbike will make you feel like you’ve grown about three inches taller.

From Harley’s to Mitsubishis to Kawasakis, they’re all beautiful and they’re all worth every penny. Taking a motorbike along a country road at the height of summer is an feeling everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.

So who’s the winner? In all honesty, we’ve lied to you a little bit here. We love all bikes. We love pushbikes for the thrill of the work, the mopeds for reliving our youth and the motorbikes for cementing our status as ultimate cool. Never mind, you’ll just have to try out all three.
